Sewer: Frequently Asked Questions

How deep can plastic sewer pipes be buried?

With normal installation techniques pipes can be buried up to 6 metres deep.
  • In the Teppfa Buried Pipe project, no significant effect of cover depth has been measured up to 2,8m.

  • The Teppfa design graphs have been validated for depths of cover of 0,8-6 meter.

  • It has been demonstrated that the deflection of flexible plastic pipes is only determined by the settlement of the surrounding soils, and not at all by the vertical soil load.

  • Flexible plastics pipes simply follow the movements of the surrounding soil during compaction, short and long term.

  • A good compaction of the backfill around the pipe results in a short period of subsequent soil settlement (1-2 months) after which no further deflection will take place.
