Sewer: Frequently Asked Questions

Are plastic pipe systems interchangeable?

All smooth wall pipes are interchangeable. Pipes with external profiles may require adaptors to connect to other types of pipe.
  • The European Standards for solid wall plastic sewer pipes have well defined dimensional requirements for outside diameters. The sizes range from 110 to 1000 mm.

  • To ensure they are interchangeable the allowable tolerances on diameter are extremely small, typically less than 0.2% of the diameter.

  • The European Standard for structured wall pipes has defined the same tight tolerances for pipes with smooth outer walls.

  • The tolerances for pipes with external profiles have been adjusted in such a way that the same tightness requirements can be met.

  • A wide range of adaptors are also available to allow plastic pipe systems to be connected to other pipe materials.
