What are the important factors when installing plastic sewer pipes?
Good installation practise and workmanship are the most important factors to assure a good performance of the sewer system.
- In the Teppfa Buried Pipe Project it has been shown that the quality of installation (backfill/compaction) accounts for up to 80% of the pipe deflection.
- Pipe stiffness has a minor effect on deflection when pipes are laid using normal installation practices.
- Also the traffic load does not significantly affect the final deflection at long term, but speeds up the process of soil settlement after installation.
- The characteristics of the pipe materials used , e.g. creep behaviour, does not effect the deflection at long term.
